NEW YORK - Andrew Rowsey had his sixth 20-point game of the season, but Marquette was unable to overcome St. John's on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden, falling 86-72.

The Golden Eagles (14-8, 5-5 BIG EAST) led by six midway through the first half before the Red Storm shot out to an eight-point edge right before the end of the frame. St. John's (11-13, 5-6 BIG EAST) went on to build its lead to 17 in the second half and held off a late MU run as the Golden Eagles pushed the game to single digits.

Rowsey scored 21 points and hit four 3-pointers in the loss for Marquette, while Sam Hauser was the only other Golden Eagle in double digits with 14 points.

Junior college transfer Bashir Ahmed posted a game-high 23 points for the Red Storm and the freshman guard duo of Shamorie Ponds and Marcus Lovett had 18 and 17, respectively.
