Feb. 11, 2017
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Jajuan Johnson led four Golden Eagles in double figures with 14 points, but shooting woes plagued Marquette in an 80-62 setback at Georgetown on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles (15-10, 6-7 BIG EAST) were unable to reach their otherwise stellar season averages offensively and the Hoyas (14-12, 5-8 BIG EAST) took full advantage. Marquette shot just 41.8 percent (23-55) from the floor, including 3-for-14 from 3-point range and 13-of-20 from the charity stripe.
Johnson notched 14 points on 6-for-12 shooting, while Duane Wilson added 12 points and Andrew Rowsey and Luke Fischer chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively, with Fischer adding five rebounds and two blocks.
Georgetown put three players in double-digit scoring with Jessie Govan leading the way with 23 points and eight rebounds. LJ Peak and Rodney Pryor also reached the 20-point mark with Pryor chipping in 10 rebounds as well.
The Hoyas featured a strong interior presence on the day, winning the battle on the boards, 39-28, including eight offensive rebounds leading to 10 second-chance points.
Marquette’s next contest will be a National Marquette Day match-up against Xavier Saturday, Feb. 18, at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Central time and will be televised live on CBS Sports Network.
