Head Coach Tom Crean
"It was a hard fought game. We did a lot of good things as did Louisville. They made a tough shot and the credit goes to them."
"The crowd was one of the all-time bests we have ever had at Marquette."
"The free throw is an Achilles heal at times. Tonight we missed some. The last thing we are going to do is quit attacking the basket and trying to get to the free throw line."
On Jerry Smith taking the final shot...
"He was in the right place at the right time. I don't know if it was drawn up or not. We didn't have a hand up like we would have liked."
"It is a tough loss. We fought back early in the first half and into the second half and the game was kind of back and forth. We got out in front but it wasn't far enough. It was an unbelievable atmosphere tonight with our fans. We need to continue to try and stay positive and get the next win."
On what he saw on the final possession...
"Without a timeout we knew there was going to be a quick shot and I tried to turn Sosa as many times as I could to kill time off the clock but they were able to get a look in the corner."
"It all came down to defensive stops. Started opening up the zone and knocking down shots. But we gave up to many easy shots inside."
"I think it is a missed opportunity anytime you have a hold on a game like that. Give credit to those guys as they played well down the stretch."
Head Coach Rick Pitino
"I told the guys you have to make one pass when you are coming down with five seconds. We tried to get Jerry Smith a shot in the corner. We have had unbelievable finishes here."
"Three weeks ago I tried to say there was so much basketball left to be played and anything can happen."
On Jerry Smith being held scoreless in the first half...
"In the first half they were playing very good defense on him. In the first half we were trying to get the ball inside and he didn't get many looks."
On the spark provided by Marquette's Dan Fitzgerald half way through the second half...
"I was excited when Novak graduated, but now you have Fitzgerald who has been groomed to fill those shoes."
