Marquette Cruises Past DePaul, 73-60, On the Road

CHICAGO – Behind a game-high 20 points from freshman Haanif Cheatham, Marquette shot over 50 percent from the field and earned a season series split by taking down DePaul, 73-60, on Saturday inside Allstate Arena.

The Golden Eagles (17-10, 6-8 BIG EAST) led by 11 points at the half and would build that advantage to as many as 23 points in the second half. MU shot 51 percent (26-51) from the field, including 7-for-17 from distance in the win.

Marquette placed four players in double figures in points, led by Cheatham’s 20 on 5-of-7 shooting from the field, including 4-for-6 from 3-point range. Henry Ellenson finished one rebound shy of his 16th double-double, adding 14 points, while juniors Luke Fischer and Jajuan Johnson chipped in 16 and 10 points, respectively.

The Blue Demons (8-18, 2-12 BIG EAST), who shot just 42 percent (21-50) from the field, were paced by Tommy Hamilton, who scored 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting.

MU scored 18 points off 16 Blue Demon miscues and held DPU to just 5-for-15 from beyond the arc for the game, including 1-for-7 in the second half.

The Golden Eagles will next take on Creighton on Wednesday, Feb. 24, in Omaha.
