MU sets season 3-point record in 93-71 win vs. St. John's

MILWAUKEE - Matt Heldt had his first career double-double and Marquette hit 12 3-pointers on Tuesday evening to break the program's single season record in a 93-71 win over St. John's at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
The Golden Eagles (17-10, 8-7 BIG EAST) went 12-of-24 from deep to push their season total to 275 makes, breaking the 2009-10 squad's record of 274 3-pointers. Their 159 3-pointers in BIG EAST play this season also breaks the previous record of 149 from the same year.
Freshman forward Sam Hauser led the way with five 3-point makes on his way to a team-best 19 points, while redshirt junior Andrew Rowsey scored 18 points with three triples. His final 3-pointer with 8:14 remaining in the game was MU's 275th of the season to break the single-season record.
Heldt contributed a career-night in his third start with 15 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double.
St. John's (12-16, 6-9 BIG EAST) was paced by a game-high 21 points from junior Bashir Ahmed.
Marquette knocked down nine first half 3-pointers on its way to a 52-37 lead at halftime. Hauser and Katin Reinhardt each notched 12 points in the opening frame with Hauser connecting on his first four triples of the game. MU shot 64.3 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes and received 21 points from its bench over that span, led by Reinhardt's 12.
The Golden Eagles resume BIG EAST action at Providence on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. Central time in a game broadcast live on the CBS Sports Network.
