Marquette downs Xavier, 95-84, to complete sweep

CINCINNATI - Marquette completed the season sweep over Xavier on Wednesday evening with a 95-84 win at the Cintas Center.
The Golden Eagles (18-11, 9-8 BIG EAST) shot 61 percent from the floor in the win while converting on 12-of-21 from the 3-point line. MU led by 13 at the break, 44-31, and went on to shoot nearly 70 percent in the second half, at one point connecting on 11 consecutive field goals.
Redshirt junior Andrew Rowsey's 20 points led the way for an MU squad that finished with five players in double digits, including Jajuan Johnson and Katin Reinhardt who scored 19 and 17 points, respectively, off the bench.
J.P. Macura scored 20 points for the Musketeers (18-12, 8-9 BIG EAST) who dropped their sixth game in a row.
With the victory, the Golden Eagles secured a top-six seed in the BIG EAST tournament and will play their first game in the quarterfinals on Thursday, March 9 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Marquette returns to Milwaukee to host Creighton on Satuday at 1:30 p.m. at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
