MU closes BMOHBC with 85-81 win over Creighton
March 3, 2018
The Golden Eagles (18-12, 9-9 BIG EAST) trailed by five at the half and outscored CU, 48-39, in the second for the victory. Rowsey led MU at the break with 12 points, but Sam Hauser hit a 3-pointer and Howard a runner with under a minute left to cut into what was a 10-point CU edge.
Howard hit three straight triples to key a MU run that give the Golden Eagles their first lead of the second half, 61-58, with 9:31 remaining. The sophomore's final basket of the first half pushed him to 1,000 points in his Marquette career, making him the 48th player in program history to reach the mark and just the first true sophomore. The only players in MU history to reach 1,000 points in their first two seasons are former All-Americans George Thompson, Dean Meminger, Dwyane Wade, Jae Crowder and Darius Johnson-Odom.
Hauser added 18 points and nine rebounds, while Rowsey nearly posted the first MU triple-double since Dwyane Wade in 2003 with 26 points, eight rebounds and eight assists on his senior day.
MU ends its time at the BMO Harris Bradley Center with an overall record of 387-115 and has finished in the top-25 nationally in attendance in each of the last 16 seasons.
The Golden Eagles resume action on either Wednesday of Thursday in the BIG EAST Men's Basketball Championship, presented by Jeep, with seeding to be determined following the results of Saturday's league games.
