Cheatham's 22 lead Marquette past IUPUI, 104-79

MILWAUKEE – Marquette scored 57 first-half points and held off visiting IUPUI 104-79 on Tuesday evening at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in the final contest of the Milwaukee Regional of the 2K Classic, benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project.

Sophomore guard Haanif Cheatham posted a game-high 22 points to lead the Golden Eagles (3-2) past the Jaguars for the fourth time in as many all-time meetings. Graduate student Katin Reinhardt tallied a season-best 16 points on the evening and all 10 scholarship players to see action scored for Marquette.

Freshman Sam Hauser notched eight points in his first collegiate start, while sophomore center Matt Heldt also started his first career game and contributed two points and four rebounds.

Senior Darell Combs and junior Ron Patterson each scored 15 points to lead IUPUI (2-3).

Marquette notched its highest point total since a 104-67 victory over Maine on Dec. 5, 2015 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center and shot a season-best 57 percent from the floor. The Golden Eagles also connected on 88 percent (23-of-26) of its free throw attempts, led by Reinhardt’s perfect 8-for-8 night.

The Golden Eagles resume action at the BMO Harris Bradley Center at 6:30 p.m. Central time on Saturday against Houston Baptist. The contest will be broadcast live on FS2.
