Golden Eagles Host Cincinnati Sunday At 1 p.m. In BIG EAST Action

Milwaukee - The rv/25 Marquette University men’s basketball team wraps up a three-game homestand when the squad continues BIG EAST Conference play against Cincinnati Sunday afternoon at the Bradley Center. The opening tip is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT and the broadcast will be featured on the BIG EAST Network. Eric Collins (play-by-play) and Mike Kelley (analyst) will call the action. The Golden Eagles will be looking to improve to 2-0 to begin league play for the first time since the 2003-04 when Marquette was a member of Conference USA. Golden Eagles Open Senior Year In BIG EAST With Win Two of those victories (vs. No. 2 Connecticut in 2005-06, vs. No. 15 Villanova in 2008-09) have come against nationally ranked opponents. The win over the Huskies came in MU’s first-ever BIG EAST matchup. Marquette last opened conference action with two-straight home games during the 2005-06 season. MU downed UConn, but was defeated by Cincinnati 70-66 in its next outing. MU is now 14-6 all-time in conference openers (Midwestern Collegiate; 1-1, Great Midwest; 3-1, Conference USA; 7-3, BIG EAST; 3-1). Starters Lead The Way In Victory Over Villanova All but two (sophomore Pat Hazel two first-half free throws) of the squad’s 79 points (97.5 percent) were netted by a member of the starting five. Against the Wildcats, the four bench players accounted for just five shot attempts and four of those came from sophomore Jimmy Butler, who had several chances on a single possession. For the season, MU’s starting lineup is accounting for 83.6 percent of the team’s total offensive production. Head coach Buzz Williams has selected the same starting unit in each of the squad’s 14 outings this season.
