Henry Ellenson Claims League Honor For Third Time

BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Year candidate Henry Ellenson has been named the league’s newcomer of the week and classmate Haanif Cheatham was tabbed to the weekly honor roll, the conference office announced Monday morning.
Ellenson averaged 14.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game in wins at Providence and versus St. John’s. In a 65-64 victory at Providence, he had 13 points, 10 rebounds and blocked a shot as time expired. For the season, Ellenson ranks third in the BIG EAST in scoring with a 15.9 points per game average and first in rebounding with a 9.9 mark.
The Rice Lake, Wisconsin, native is one of the top performing freshmen in the nation. He is ranked third in rebounding nationally among first-year players and 11th in scoring. His 10 double-doubles are the eighth most in college basketball (most in BIG EAST) and is the second-highest total by a freshman. Ellenson is currently ranked among the league leaders in seven different categories (scoring, rebounding, free throw percentage, blocked shots, offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds and minutes per game.
Cheatham averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in a 2-0 week and scored a team-high 16 points in a 65-64 win at Providence. For the season, he is fourth on the team in scoring at 11.1 points per game and ranks ninth in the BIG EAST in field goal percentage (.555).
