All-Time Series With Georgetown Now Even

The all-time series between Marquette and Georgetown is now tied at 9-9, with all but two of the matchups coming since MU joined the BIG EAST in 2005-06.

The programs first met during the 1941-42 campaign and the Hoyas were able to claim a 35-34 victory. The next meeting didn't come until the 1971-72 season and Marquette posted a winning 88-44 decision. The series resumed in 2005-06 and the squads have met on 16 occasions since that year. The Hoyas posted a 65-59 win at the Verizon Center on Jan. 6 this season in the first meeting of the home-and-home series.

Carlino Carrying Offense In League Play

Senior guard Matt Carlino, who entering the season was the only MU player to ever averaged double figures in points for a campaign (at BYU), has picked up his offensive production during league competition.

The Phoenix, Arizona native is fourth in the league in scoring (17.3 ppg.) in BIG EAST outings and is also among the conference leaders in free throw percentage (4th, .875), 3-pointers made (2nd, 3.2 3-pt pg.), steals (3rd, 2.0 spg.) and 3-point field goal percentage (12th, .396) through games of Jan. 21.

Carlino has reached double figures in scoring in each of the last seven outings and is perfect from the free throw line (17-of-17) over the course of the last five contests. He is the only player on the roster currently averaging double figures in BIG EAST play.

Cohen III Gaining Confidence, Earning Minutes

Freshman forward Sandy Cohen III has encountered the standard ups-and-downs most freshmen run into during their respective debut campaigns, but is currently enjoying an upswing.

The Seymour, Wisconsin native played a career-high 27 minutes Wednesday night against St. John's and finished with six points, three rebounds and a blocked shot off the bench. After reaching double figures in minutes just twice in a span of seven outings, Cohen has now played 12-or-more minutes in each of his BIG EAST Conference appearances.

Taylor Jr. Produces In Trip To The Garden

Junior forward Steve Taylor Jr. contributed one of his better games of the season in the loss at St. John's, nearly collecting his second career double-double.

The Chicago native finished with 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench in 25 minutes of action. He was 5-of-9 from the field, including a 3-pointer, and four of his boards came at the offensive end.

Taylor Jr.'s scoring output marked his highest since netting 16 points on Dec. 19 against Alabama A&M and surpassed his total in the team's previous six games (nine points). His lone double-double came against Grambling State on Nov. 12, 2013 when he chipped in 16 points and 11 rebounds.
