The Marquette University men’s basketball team (19-5, 8-3 BIG EAST) looks to get back on the winning track Monday night at 8 p.m. CT when the team takes on DePaul (11-11, 2-8 BIG EAST) in Allstate Arena. ESPNU will feature the television broadcast as part of ESPN’s Rivalry Week, with Carter Blackburn (play-by-play) and Mike Kelley (analyst) calling the action. After wrapping up a quick two-game road swing (two games in three days), Marquette will return home to host Cincinnati Feb. 11 on National Marquette Day.

Road Trip Provides Pair of Historic Matchups

Monday night’s matchup with DePaul, which will mark the 111th meeting between the two programs, is a perfect selection for ESPN’s “Rivalry Week.”

The series between the two programs dates back to the 1917-18 campaign (DePaul won 21-17 first meeting) and is the third-longest in school history.

Marquette has battled Wisconsin on 118 occasions, the most against any single team since the program’s inception. On Saturday afternoon, the Golden Eagles faced Notre Dame for the 116th time in a series that dates back to 1920.

The Golden Eagles have claimed eight of the last 10 meetings with the Blue Demons, including a 94-64 decision last season at the Bradley Center. DePaul downed MU 51-50 on Jan. 20, 2010 the last time the squad visited Allstate Arena.

Blue Picks Up Offensive Production

Prior to Tuesday’s win over Seton Hall, sophomore guard Vander Blue owned one career double-figure scoring game in 27 conference appearances.

He has now surpassed the 10-point plateau in back-to-back games following his 12-point effort at Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon. He also scored 16 points against the Pirates on Jan. 31 and is shooting 50 percent (12-of-24) from the field in the two outings. The Madison, Wis., native has also grabbed an average of 7.5 rebounds per game in the last pair of matchups.

Previous to this season, Blue’s lone double-figure scoring game came against DePaul on Jan. 18, 2011 in the Bradley Center. He finished the game with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor in 22 minutes off the bench.

In the Jan. 28 win at Villanova, sophomore Vander Blue knocked down 4-of-4 free throws (he stepped to the line 42.9 percent from the charity stripe in league play) in the closing seconds to help seal the victory.

Jones Makes A Name For Himself At Notre Dame

Sophomore forward Jamail Jones saw extended playing time for the first time in his career in BIG EAST Conference play.

The Atlanta, Ga., native saw 19 minutes of action off the bench, which surpassed his total (18 minutes) from the previous four appearances combined. Previous to Saturday, Jones had never played more than seven minutes in any single league outing.

Jones finished with eight points on 4-of-9 shooting and also grabbed three rebounds, dished out one assist and created a steal.
