National Marquette Day Celebration Begins Friday Night
Feb. 17, 2017
The National Marquette Day festivities got underway Friday night with the pep rally and long-awaited alumni game, which was held as part of the season-long celebration of 100 years of men’s basketball at the University.
A tremendous crowd enjoyed unseasonably warm temperatures for the pep rally across the street from the Al McGuire Center, which was capped by a fireworks display. Fans in attendance were able to make their own s’mores and hear from both basketball programs.
Following the pep rally, the crowd gathered in the Al for the first alumni game in numerous years.
Marquette will welcome well over 100 former players back to down this weekend and almost 50 of them participated in the game. Team Ellis defeated Team Tatum 68-58, but more importantly the game was injury free and everyone was able to contribute.
Early voting for team MVP accolades have Roney Eford Jr. (Team Ellis) and Joe Chapman (Team Tatum) in the lead.
All former players, coaches and staff members will enjoy a pregame reception on Saturday afternoon before attending the Xavier game at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. The group will be introduced and honored at halftime.
