Golden Eagles Head To Villanova For Key BIG EAST Matchup
Feb. 24, 2008
The 25/24 Marquette University men's basketball team hits the road for a BIG EAST Conference matchup at Villanova Monday night. ESPN will feature Marquette's 11th national broadcast of the campaign, slated to begin at 6 p.m. CT. The Golden Eagles currently own sole possession of fifth place in the 16-team league and have already wrapped up a spot in the conference tournament. The Wildcats led the all-time series with Marquette 6-4, but MU claimed the most recent outing with an 80-67 decision last season in Milwaukee. Following Monday night's matchup, the Golden Eagles will have the week to prepare for their matchup against nationally ranked Georgetown on March 1.
Marquette's 20/10 Vision Sign Of Success
Through games of Feb. 23, Marquette and Georgetown are the only two programs in the league to claim at least 20 overall decisions and 10 conference victories since the 2005-06 campaign. MU's 30 BIG EAST wins during that time are surpassed by only Georgetown's 35.
Marquette has now claimed 20-or-more victories in a season on five occasions under ninth-year head coach Tom Crean.
Golden Eagles Winning In "BIG" EAST Play
The Golden Eagles now own four BIG EAST Conference victories this season of 25-or-more points, the most of any team in the league. MU opened the conference portion of its schedule with a 96-67 win (29 points) over Providence and followed that up three games later with a 92-66 decision (26 points) against Notre Dame.
The Golden Eagles downed Seton Hall 89-64 (25 points) on the road on Feb. 25 and pulled away for the 30-point victory over the Scarlet Knights.
Through games of Feb. 23, Marquette is the only league team with more than one 25-point victory in conference action this season.
