James, McNeal Honored by NABC
Feb. 28, 2007 MILWAUKEE - Sophomore guards Dominic James and Jerel McNeal were recognized, Wednesday, by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) as two of the finest men's collegiate basketball student-athletes in the nation. James was named to the NABC Division I All-District First Team and McNeal was honored on the second team. With 15.2 points per game, James leads the Golden Eagles and ranks ninth in the BIG EAST. He is also fourth in the conference in assists, averaging 4.73 per game. McNeal is averaging 14.7 points per game and ranks second in the conference and 11th in NCAA DI with 2.62 steals per game. The duo joins 40 others from Marquette who have previously been named to an NABC All-District Team. James becomes the first student-athlete since Travis Diener in 2003-04, and 21st overall for MU to make the first team. McNeal is the 17th Golden Eagle to make the second team and follows Steve Novak who made it last season. Marquette has also had four third-team members. James and McNeal were two of 150 selected from 15 districts and are now eligible for the NCAA Division I All-American teams that will be announced at the conclusion of the season. Eight student-athletes from the BIG EAST received NABC All-District First Team honors and nine were recognized on the second team. NABC Division I All-District First Team District 11 Second Team
