Marquette University men’s basketball players Markus Howard and Andrew Rowsey have both claimed All-BIG EAST accolades for the second-straight season, the league office announced Sunday afternoon.

Howard was tabbed Second Team All-BIG EAST for the second time and Rowsey earned an Honorable Mention All-BIG EAST nod in voting conducted with the conference’s head coaches. Howard was named to the freshman team in 2016-17 and Rowsey was the BIG EAST Sixth Man of the Year.

Howard concluded the 2017-18 regular season ranked among the league leaders in scoring (3rd, 20.9 ppg.), free throw percentage (1st, .939) and 3-point field goals made (2nd, 3.3). His conference season was highlighted by a record-tying 52-point effort in an overtime win at Providence on Jan. 3.

Rowsey concluded his career as the BIG EAST’s all-time leader in free throw percentage (.931, 135-of-145) and this season is among the conference’s best in scoring (5th, 19.9 ppg.), assists (6th, 4.7 apg.), free throw percentage (2nd, .901), 3-point field goals made (1st, 3.4 pg.) and assist-to-turnover ratio (13th, 1.7).

Syracuse’s Gerry McNamara held the previous free throw mark (.917, 199-of-217) in the BIG EAST.

The Golden Eagles have had at least one player honored each year since the program began league affiliation with the Midwestern Collegiate Conference in 1989-90.

Marquette has earned the No. 7 seed in the upcoming league tournament and will face No. 10 DePaul at 8:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, March 7 in Madison Square Garden. The winner advances to face second-seeded Villanova at 6 p.m. CT on Thursday, March 8.
