Marquette to Face Davidson Thursday in NCAA Championship
March 17, 2013 Interactive Bracket | Printable Bracket (PDF) MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's basketball team has received a No. 3 seed in the 2013 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship and will face No. 14-seed Davidson in the second round on Thursday in Lexington, Ky., at Rupp Arena. Marquette (23-8, 14-4 BIG EAST) is a three seed for the second year in a row and will return to the state of Kentucky after playing at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky., in 2012. The Golden Eagles are 7-3 all-time as a three seed, earning the placement in 1979 and 2003 in addition to last year. The Wildcats (26-7) are the back-to-back Southern Conference champions and are led by leading scorer Jake Cohen's 14.8 points per game. Davidson boasts the nation's longest winning streak, having won 17-straight games. If the Golden Eagles were to advance they would face the winner of No. 6 Butler and No. 11 Bucknell on Saturday. Marquette has faced 10 opponents this season who will compete in the tournament and holds a 6-7 record against those foes. Thursday will mark the third meeting between MU and the Wildcats, with each team holding one victory in the series. Davidson won the first matchup between the two programs in 1965, while Marquette claimed a 66-65 victory in the last meeting on Feb. 11, 1967.
