The No. 3 seed Marquette University men's basketball team (23-8, 14-4 BIG EAST) makes its eighth-straight appearance in the NCAA tournament Thursday, March 21 when the squad faces No. 14 seed Davidson (26-7, 17-1 Southern) at 2:10 p.m. CT from Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky. truTV features MU's 21st national broadcast of the year, with Ian Eagle (play-by-play), Jim Spanarkel (analyst) and Allie LaForce (reporter) on the call.

MU Making Eighth-Straight NCAA Appearance

Marquette is making its eighth-straight appearance in the NCAA Championship and 31st overall, marking the first time since 1980 the program has advanced to the postseason eight consecutive years.

The 1980 appearance actually capped a 10-year run in the NCAA's, which included the 1977 National Championship squad. Legendary coach Al McGuire led MU to a 67-59 win over North Carolina in the title matchup that season, one of nine NCAA appearances during his tenure. MU is 38-31 all-time in the NCAA's,

which includes six appearances in the regional championship game and three in the Final Four. Marquette owns 46 all-time postseason berths (NCAA, NIT and National Catholic Tournament).

Marquette is one of just six teams (Duke, Gonzaga, Kansas, Michigan St. and Wisconsin) to be selected to the NCAA field in each of the last eight years.

MU's Schedule Preps Team For Postseason

Nearly half (15-of-31) of Marquette's games this season came against programs selected to participate in either the 2013 NCAA or NIT fields.

The Golden Eagles played a total of 13 games versus fellow NCAA participants and posted a record of 6-7 in those matchups. MU also earned victories against Providence and St. John's, which were both selected to the 32-team field of the NIT.

The BIG EAST's eight teams are the most of any of the nation's 32 conferences, while it's the fourth-straight year with at least eight teams in the NCAA tournament. The BIG EAST has had at least eight NCAA teams six times since 2006.

Limited Series With Davidson Dates To mid-1960's

The Golden Eagles and Wildcats have met on just two occasions in program history, facing each other in back-to-back campaigns in non-conference action.

The Wildcats posted a 73-65 win at home on Dec. 9, 1965 and Marquette followed up with a 66-65 victory in Milwaukee on Feb. 11, 1967. The second matchup in 1966-67 was the third year under legendary head coach Al McGuire and resulted in a trip to the championship game of the National Invitation Tournament.

MU is 12-1 all-time versus programs currently in the Southern Conference, with the most recent meeting coming against Western Carolina on Dec. 19, 2008 (W, 94-77).
