Michigan Prep Standout Greg Elliott Signs With Marquette

April 12, 2017

Prep standout Greg Elliott (Detroit, MI/East English Village HS) has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Marquette University men’s basketball program, head coach Steve Wojciechowski announced Wednesday afternoon.

Elliott, 6-3, 165-pounder, will arrive on campus in the summer of 2017 and have four years of eligibility with the Golden Eagles.

“We are thrilled that Greg will be joining our basketball family here at Marquette,” Wojciechowski said. “He is a high level athlete and versatile player who had a tremendous senior year. His future is very bright and we can’t wait to get to work with him.”

Elliott was a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter at East English Village High School under head coach Juan Rickman. He concluded his career with 1,376 points, the second most in school history, and finished fourth in the state’s Mr. Basketball voting as a senior.

A finalist for the state’s Hal Schram Mr. Basketball Award in 2016-17, he averaged 28.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 52.0 percent from the floor. He also scored 40-or-more points on three occasions as a senior. The Bulldogs claimed the public school title in 2016 and were district champions in 2015 and 2016.

The program was ranked in the state’s top five in each of his seasons and earned a national ranking in 2015-16 and 2016-17. He chipped in 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per contest as a junior.

On the AAU circuit, Elliott competed with The Family. He selected Marquette over other finalists Michigan State and Providence.

Marquette’s 2017 class also includes Jamal Cain (Pontiac, MI/Cornerstone Health & Technology HS), Ike Eke (Detroit, MI/Univ. of Detroit Jesuit HS) and Theo John (Minneapolis, MN/Champlin Park HS). The trio of Michigan natives all played on the same AAU team.
