Marquette Finishes 13th In The Nation In Men's Basketball Attendance
May 14, 2012
The Marquette University men’s basketball team finished 13th in the nation in average attendance in 2011-12, according to official numbers released by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
The Golden Eagles, who have now finished in the top-25 in each of the last 11 seasons, averaged 15,138 fans at the Bradley Center last season to finish 13th overall.
Marquette has finished in the top-15 every campaign since 2005-06, reaching an all-time high of 10th in the nation in both 2008-09 and 2009-10. A total of 242,205 Blue & Gold faithful passed through the turnstiles in 2011-12, helping MU to finish 10th overall in total attendance (478,941) for all games (home, away and neutral).
Over three million fans attended BIG EAST Conference games in 2011-12, easily the most of any league at the NCAA Division I level. Marquette ranked third overall among conference teams behind Syracuse (23,618, 2nd) and Louisville (21,503, 3rd).
The consistent performance by Marquette fans can be attributed in part to the team’s student support. Approximately half of the undergraduate population at MU purchases season tickets on an annual basis.
Season tickets for the 2012-13 campaign will go on sale in July.
