May 22, 2012
Marquette junior forward Jamil Wilsonhas been invited to join a roster of fellow NCAA Division I competitors and participate in a tour of Germany in early June through a program organized by Athletes In Action (AIA).
Wilson leaves on Saturday, May 26 for the trip and the team will be based out of Essen, Germany. In addition to games, the travel party will also host coaching clinics. AIA has been sending teams overseas for over 25 years.
"It's an incredible opportunity and I am really looking forward to it," Wilson said. "Anytime you have the chance to compete on the court, especially in an international setting, I feel like you have to take advantage of the opportunity. It's going to be a great learning experience and I am extremely grateful to be participating."
The team will be coached by Baylor assistant Tim Maloney and he will be assisted by Liberty's Pawel Mrozik. Wilson will be joined on the roster by Deuce Bello (Baylor), Drew Barham (Memphis), Brady Heslip (Baylor), Akii Mitchell (Virginia), Daniel Coursey (Mercer), Jordan Juenemann (Kansas), Josh Richardson (Tennessee), Christian Garrett (Kansas), Jordan Reves (UT-Arlington) and Karol Gruszecki (UT-Arlington).
"Having coached an AIA team in the past, I am a believer in what the purpose of these trips are and the residual positive impact that comes from it - not just as a player, but as a person," head coach Buzz Williamssaid. "Jamil will be back to be a part of our summer camps and our second summer school session, but this was an opportunity that I believe will be life-changing for him."
Wilson and the team will return June 10.
