Championship Friday. Those two words seem simple enough to the average observer, but mean so much more to any of the participants who have sacrificed the blood, sweat and tears in hopes of leaving a champion.
There was plenty to be determined in each of the three divisions entering play on Thursday and two of the brackets needed a tiebreaker to identify the top seed. Cleveland State finished on top of the Horizon League with an impressive 6-1 mark, but Valparaiso also only lost one outing.
Unfortunately that loss was to the Vikings and as a result CSU will be the team to beat on Friday. Providence navigated its BIG EAST schedule with a perfect 8-0 mark, the only undefeated roster in camp, and is No. 1 in its 10-team bracket. There was another tie in the NBA, but the Bulls (8-1) claimed the regular season crown via tiebreaker.
The Session III campers were treated to a special opportunity Thursday afternoon as the current members of the Marquette team conducted a Q&A session during the all-camp session. The current group of players answered a number of questions from the participants and shared not only their own camp experiences, but also detailed the hard work and dedication it takes to make it to the collegiate level.
Thursday’s “Mr. Stations” Award winners were Spencer Gatto (Horizon League), Carlos Klaus (BIG EAST) and Henry Voeller (NBA). The Camper of the Day awards went to Adrian Mercado (Horizon League), Emmet Klaus (BIG EAST) and Max Leibham (NBA)
