MU To Face Butler In Opening Game Of EA SPORTS Maui Invitational

The Marquette University men’s basketball team will face Butler in the team’s opening game of the 2012 EA SPORTS Maui Invitational, tournament officials announced Thursday morning.

The Golden Eagles and Bulldogs will play at 2 p.m. CT on Nov. 19 in the opening game of the event. Based on that result, MU will face either North Carolina or Mississippi State on Nov. 20. Marquette is 14-13 all-time versus Butler, but the two teams haven’t met since the 1990-91 campaign.

Marquette last participated in the event in 2008 and advanced to the title matchup after posting wins against host Chaminade and Oklahoma State. MU fell 77-73 to No. 13 Duke in the championship game.
