Top State Prospect Matt Heldt Joins Marquette

Nationally ranked prospect Matt Heldt (Neenah, Wis./Neenah HS) has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Marquette University men’s basketball program, head coach Steve Wojciechowski announced Wednesday morning.

Heldt, a 6-10, 240-pounder, will arrive on campus this summer and have four years of eligibility with the Golden Eagles.

“We are thrilled with the addition of Matt to the Marquette family,” Wojciechowski said. “While Matt obviously adds much needed size to our program, he is also a versatile frontcourt player with a high basketball IQ and possesses a tremendous desire to improve in every area. He has been well prepared at the high school level and is a fundamentally sound post player. We believe he will have the ability to play both inside and out during his college career and that his best basketball is ahead of him.”

Marquette’s 2015 recruiting class is currently ranked among the top-10 groups in the nation. and rank the commitments fourth, while has the group positioned fifth and in the seventh spot.

“All four of the young men in this class represent what we want in basketball players at Marquette,” Wojciechowski said. “They each have high character, are good students, and have a passion for the game of basketball. They come from great families and were raised with the right values and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome them to our family at Marquette. We look forward to each of them making an impact on the campus community, both as people and as players.”

Heldt, one of the top prospects in the state of Wisconsin, is ranked as high as 57th nationally by He owns the 93rd position in the listing and is one of four MU signees in the top-100.



As a junior in 2013-14, Heldt helped lead Neenah High School to a 26-2 overall record (17-1 league) under head coach Scott Bork. He chipped in 18.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game en route to all-state honors by both the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (first team) and Associated Press (second team). The Rockets claimed the regional and sectional titles and Heldt was tabbed the conference player of the year, helping lead the squad to the state championship game.

In 2012-13, Heldt contributed 13.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per contest and was named first team all-conference, second team all-area and honorable mention all-state.

As a freshman, Heldt attended Appleton West High School. He has competed on the AAU circuit for the Milwaukee Spartans.

“In our first year we wanted to make the state of Wisconsin a priority in recruiting because of the talented players and coaches throughout the state,” Wojciechowski said. “We feel very fortunate that three of our first four signees during our tenure are Wisconsin natives. I think it speaks to the quality of basketball at the high school level, which is obviously gaining attention at a national level.”
