Marial Shayok Joins Marquette For 2014-15 Campaign
Nov. 14, 2013
Forward Marial Shayok (Ottawa, Canada/Blair Academy) has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Marquette University men's basketball program, head coach Buzz Williams announced Thursday afternoon.
Shayok, a 6-6, 205-pounder, will arrive on campus this summer and have four years of eligibility with the Golden Eagles.
"We are thrilled to add Marial to our 2014 class," Williams said. "Every recruit in every sport has a story and I am humbled to have been able to be a part of this one. There were no prior relationships in his sphere of influence, and so it made it an old-school type of story.
"I am very grateful for the opportunity to have gotten to know his family and his high school coaches, and believe because of the foundation they have laid for him, we will reap some of those benefits," Williams added. "He is a switchable in how we play on both ends and I expect him to have an impact from the start."
Shayok averaged 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game as a junior at Blair Academy under head coach Joe Mantegna. The squad finished with a 17-9 overall record and advanced to the state's prep championship contest. He was named all-conference and also claimed a spot on the all-state roster.
He played his previous seasons at St. Patrick's High school in Ottawa, Canada.
Marquette's 2014 recruiting class is currently ranked among the top-20 groups in the nation. ESPN.com ranks the commitments 15th, while Scout.com has them positioned 16th. MU has collected multiple nationally ranked classes since Williams took over the program in 2008.
