2008-09 -- Did not play in any varsity events during his first season at Marquette.

2008 (Summer) --
Bettinardi won two Boys 16-19 Division events while playing on the Plantations Junior Golf Tour. In April, he tied for first place at the Windy City Challenge at Cog Hill Golf Club with a 141 (68-73) and then took medalist honors at "The Battle at Cantigny" with a 150 (72-78).

Prior to Marquette -- Bettinardi was the Illinois Junior Golf Association (IJGA) Junior Boys Player of the Year in 2006. He was named runner-up for the IJGA Senior Boys Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008. Also in 2008, Bettinardi garnered Future Collegians World Tour Third Team All-America honors. He claimed medalist honors in 39 out of 50 matches he competed in as a prep athlete at Chicago Christian High School. A three-time all-conference selection, Bettinardi led the Knights to a ninth-place finish at the 2007 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 2A state finals and a 13th-place finish in 2005. He was the Knights' team captain for three years under head coach Chip Dykema. Bettinardi also helped Chicago Christian win three consecutive regional titles, in addition to a sectional championship during his senior season. As a high school junior, Bettinardi's scoring average was 36.27 for nine holes and bettered that average to 35.61 during his senior season. in 2006, Bettinardi competed in and made the cut at the Western Junior Championship, shooting a four-round total of 300 (79-68-73-80).

Personal -- Samuel Robert Bettinardi was born Sept. 19, 1989 in Lemont, Ill. His parents are Robert and Ann Bettinardi. He has two younger sisters, Giavanna and Brigitte and is majoring in business entrepreneurship.
