Sophomore (2002-03) -- Gaare played in just three tournaments in the first half of 2002-03, but he improved his career scoring average by half a stroke. He fired his first career sub-par round at the Ironhorse Intercollegiate, where he placed 25th with a 12-over 228. He shot par for the round in the first time in his career at the Blue Demon invitational. He had his highest placement of the year, 14th, at that tournament. He played just twice in the spring, but was successful both times. He led MU at the Dick Wittcoff/USF Invitational with a 240. He finished in the top 10 for the first time in his career at the Billiken Invitational, shooting 221. He, however, was unable to help MU in that tourney as he was playing as an individual. Freshman (2001-02) -- Gaare didn't see his first collegiate action until the final event of the fall season. He completed a respectable 235 at the John Piper Intercollegiate. He has been between the mid 70s and low 80s for the duration of his first year, with the exception of a 73 in the second round of the Kauai Collegiate Cup. He set his season best 52-hole total with a 232 in the final event of the regular season, the Billiken Inviational Prior to Marquette -- Gaare was an all-around athlete at York High School. He earned three letters in golf and also lettered in baseball, hockey and volleyball. Leading his team to a conference crown in 2000, Gaare was also the individual conference medalist that season. He was a three-time all conference and two-time all-region selection. In addition to qualifying for state in golf, Gaare was the two-time state engineering contest champion. Personal -- Born May 24, 1983, Gaare is the son of Thomas and Cheryl Gaare. He is a mechanical engineering major.
