Marquette golf is set to tee off the the 2013-13 season - a year that includes a new-look BIG EAST, a home tournament in October's Erin Hills Intercollegiate, and a deeper, more experienced group of players. Coach Steve Bailey, Adam Chester, Corey Konieczki, and Pat Sanchez preview the upcoming year.
2014-15: BIG EAST Player of the Year, as voted on by the league's coaches ... Named MU's Most Valuable Player ... Joined Mike Van Sickle as the second player in program history to be named All-BIG EAST three times ... PING GCAA All-Midwest Region selection ... Earned BIG EAST Golfer of the Month honors for September 2014, posting a scoring average of 72.33 with three sub-70 rounds in three tournaments to begin the season ... Led the team and finished fourth in BIG EAST average scoring at 73.61 ... One of two MU players to start all 33 rounds ... Opened the season by finishing T-11 at the Northern Intercollegiate, which included a second round 3-under par 69, the second lowest round of his collegiate career ... Finished 11th at the Windon Memorial by recording a three-round total of 210 (69-71-70) ... Opened the Badger Invite with a 4-under par round of 68 en route to a T10 finish ... 2013-14: One of three Golden Eagles (Brandon Cloete, CJ Swift) named to the 2014 All-BIG EAST Team, becoming just the third MU golfer in school history to garner all-conference accolades in multiple seasons (2013) ... Shot a career-low 68 in the second round of the USF Invitational helping him finish in the top 40 and first among MU Golfers ... Finished third among MU golfers at the Wendy's Kiawah Classic, guiding the team to a second place finish ... Led all MU golfers at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate finishing tied for 33rd with a 223 (74-77-72) ... Competed in the Windon Memorial Classic shooting an opening round 70 helping him to a top-40 finish ... Opened up the season at the Doc Gimmler by finishing tied for 39th shooting a 5-over 215.
2012-13: All-BIG EAST Conference selection and member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team ... Carded a 75 in the only round of the C&F Bank Intercollegiate ... Shot a 217 (72-70-75) at The McLaughlin, the lowest among MU players ... Finished tied for third among MU golfers (T15 overall) to help Marquette claim the John Dallio Memorial title ... Was MU's top golfer at four of the team's 10 events as a freshmen in 2012-2013 ... Shot a 231 (76-77-78) and a 222 (75-79-68) at the Pinetree Intercollegiate and the Wendy's Kiawah Classic respectively ... One of two MU players to play in every event ... Led team with a 75.75 scoring average in his rookie campaign ... Shot a 68 in the third round of the Wendy's Kiawah Classic, the lowest individual round of the season among all MU players ... Amateur: Competed in the 110-player field of the inaugural Latin America Amateur Championships (LAAC) in Pilar, Argentina, representing Mexico, Jan. 15-18, 2015 - made the cut with a second round score of 71 (-1), in a round that included four birdies - finished the tournament in 57th place ... Member of the Mexico national team for five years ... Earned his first Future Collegians World Tour victory on Dec. 12, 2010, at the Ritz Carlton at Dove Mountain ... Has posted two top-three finishes in AJGA events and two top-10 finishes in PGA of Mexico events ... Ranked No. 142 overall in the 2012 class by Golfweek ...
