LUTZ, Fla. - The Marquette University men's golf team dropped both of its matches Saturday to close out The Match Play with an overall team record of 2-2, including an appearance in the semifinals of the 16-team event that began Friday at TPC Tampa Bay.

MU earned a berth into the semifinal round after defeating fellow BIG EAST Conference foes Villanova and Notre Dame on Friday.

Kennesaw State, which later went on to claim the tournament title, scored a 4.5 to 0.5 win over the Golden Eagles to open play on Saturday. MU's lone result was a tie by senior Ben Sieg at the No. 2 position in the lineup.

Sieg proceeded to score a 2-up victory over Xavier's Alan Glynn in the following round, and MU sophomore Ryan Prickette scored a 1-up win over Aaron Siekmann at the No. 5 slot, but Xavier still managed to take a 3-2 decision.

Prickette and junior Matt Haase were the only two MU players to record at least two individual victories in the team's four matches over the weekend.

In the championship match, Kennesaw State knocked off Ball State, 3-2. Not all of the consolation matches were completed Saturday due to darkness.

This weekend's tournament, MU's first event of the 2011 spring season, is the only match play event on the regular season schedule. Marquette's next team event will be the USF Invitational, March 4-6, at Lake Jovita Golf Club in Dade City, Fla.
