KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Freshman CJ Swift went 2-0 Monday to lead the Marquette University men's golf team on the opening day of The Match Play at Reunion Resort.

Marquette, the No. 11 seed, was paired up against USF in the Golden Eagles’ first match of the 2012 spring season. Action got underway on the Tom Watson course following a 30-minute frost delay. Swift tallied the team's lone victory in a 5-1 loss to the second-seeded Bulls, defeating Tommy Riehle 3 and 2 at the No. 5 spot.

Adam Chester, playing in his first tournament since joining MU in January of 2011, narrowly dropped his debut match 2 and 1 at the No. 2 position. Sophomore Michael Motz fell by the same margin at the team’s top spot as did classmate Corey Konieczki at No. 3.

Chester was down three after eight holes before slowly clawing his way back in MU's second match which was against Illinois State. He hit the pin on the 18th hole from 65 yards out and went on to win the hole and halve his match. Swift hung on for a 2-and-1 decision, while senior Matt Haase dropped his final match of the afternoon, 2 and 1.

MU will play Seton Hall in its first match Tuesday, beginning at 7:54 a.m. Central time. Live scoring is not available. For updates from the course, follow @MUGolfLive on Twitter.
