Freshman Mike Van Sickle shot a final round 69 -- his second sub 70 of the tournament -- to move up to second in the final round of the John Piper Intercollegiate in Yellow Springs, Ohio.

Van Sickle's three round total of 208 was eight-under par and was second only to Jonathan Pauli of Oakland, who carded a 10-under, 206. Van Sickle led all golfers with 15 birdies during the tournament.

Van Sickle led the Golden Eagles to a second place finish. Marquette, third after two rounds, moved up with a third-round 283, tying host Bowling Green for the best final round score. Marquette finished the tournament at 854, nine shots off the pace set by Bowling Green.

Senior Nathan Colson, making a return from a red-shirt season last year, got off to a hot start as well, finishing ina tie for seventh. He shot two-under 214 for the event.

Senior Kyle Murphy finished just outside of the top 10, placing 12th. He shot one-under 215 for the 54 holes.

Senior Joe Weber had the best single-round score for any Marquette golfer with a final-round 68. He moved up to 17th place, shooting one-over, 217. Weber had two eagles over the course of the 54 holes.

Sophomore Ted Gray rounded out the field for Marquette, placing in a tie for 36th at nine-over, 225.

 

 

Marquette golf returns to action September 26-27, taking part in the Cardinal Intercollegiate in Louisville, Ky.
