Marquette T-12 After 18 Holes at Puerto Rico Classic

-- Oliver Farrell and Matt Murlick posted 73s (2-over-par) in Marquette’s opening round of the 2018 spring schedule, a 12th-place 294 on Sunday in the Puerto Rico Classic (PRC) hosted by Purdue at Rio Mar Country Club.

On the packed leaderboard in the 15-team tournament, 20 shots separate field-leading No. 8 Oklahoma (274) and the 12th-place spot shared by UNC Greensboro and Marquette.  The field includes eight top-50 teams, including the Golden Eagles (29th - Golfstat/Golfweek).

Farrell and Murlick rallied on their final holes to take momentum into day two.  Farrell, who teed off on No. 6, birdied the par 4 1st and 2nd holes to climb back to 73.  Murlick finished 3-under-par on his last two, including an eagle on the par 5 5th.  They enter Monday tied for 37th.

Sixteen top-100 players dot the 75-man field, including No. 77 Austin Kendziorski, who shot an opening round 79.  

The field averaged a score of 72.71 on day one on the par 71, 6,718-yard course at Rio Mar C.C.

The PRC continues on Monday with a 6 a.m. CT shotgun start.  Marquette tees off on holes No. 5, 6 and 7 in a threesome with North Carolina State and No. 20 Kentucky.
