RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico -- A final round 73 took Hunter Eichhorn to a 3-over-par tournament and a tie for 17th place as Marquette finished 11th (284-289-300—883) in its opening event of the spring at the Puerto Rico Classic, hosted by Purdue at Rio Mar C.C.

Eichhorn (74-69-73—216) led the Golden Eagles on another high-scoring day, going 2-over-par in his final round on a day where the 75-man field turned in an average score of 74.56 on the Par 71, 6,617-yard course.  He got out to a 5-over-par start, teeing off on No. 8, before making three birdies on his final five holes to finish.

The PRC marks the second time Eichhorn has been the top finisher for MU this season - he won his last start, the Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational, in October.  Eichhorn finished higher than eight top-100 players in the event.

Clemson came from behind to win the event, finishing with a 2-over-par 854.  Alabama’s Lee Hodges kept his second round lead, holding on to win with a 7-under-par 206.  The PRC featured eight top-50 (Golfstat) teams in the 15-team field, including 29th-ranked Marquette, and 16 top-100 players, including Austin Kendziorski.

Marquette continues its spring season next month, traveling to the Mackenzie Match Play in Santa Cruz, California March 12-13.
