Marquette senior Nathan Colson is in second place through 18 holes of the 54-hole Dick Wittcoff/USF Invitational in Tampa, Fla. Colson shot two-under, 69, and is in a three-way tie for second, two strokes behind Nebraska's Brady Schnell. Colson rebounded well from a 33rd place finish earlier this week at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate. In the first round, Colson shot par on 14 of the 18 holes. As a team, Marquette is 10 strokes behind Middle Tennessee and Nebraska, who share the first round lead. Tied with Missouri State, Marquette shot 14-over, 298. Middle Tennessee and Nebraska are at four-over, 288. Marquette senior Kyle Murphy is in a log jam at 28th place. He shot a four-over 75 on the day. Freshman Mike Van Sickle is in 40th place, one stroke behind Murphy at 76. Sophomore Ted Gray is in 62nd place with a seven-over, 78. Senior Joe Weber struggled in the first round and shot 84 in the first round to place 88th. Play continues tomorrow, March 4, with the second round starting at 8 a.m. EST.
