DADE CITY, Fla. - Marquette University freshman Nick Nelson sits in eighth place overall following a first-round 71 Sunday at the USF Invitational at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club.

Marquette shot a team score of 308 in the opening round of the three-day event, which continues tomorrow and wraps up Tuesday. Adam Chester (78) and Pat Sanchez (79) helped lead the charge in a competitive field that saw the Golden Eagles in 15th place after day one.

Nelson was two-over par through 10 holes, but was able to close with three birdies down the stretch to pace MU. Sanchez eagled his second hole, the par-5 hole 11, but he struggled mid-round after being in a top-20 position early on in the tournament.
