LAKE JOVITA, Fla. - Steady was the way to describe sophomore Mike Van Sickle.

Third after 18 holes and second after 36 holes, Van Sickle moved up one final spot to finish three-under, 213 to win his second straight tournament. Van Sickle shot a 71 in each of the three rounds to distance himself by one stroke from Rhode Island's Ben Spitz and New Orleans' Jose Toledo.

"He's just playing really well right now," head coach Tim Grogan said. "He's a very consistent golfer and that showed in this tournament."

Van Sickle was the only golfer to shoot below par in each round. It is the second straight tournament in which he's been the individual medalist. He won the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate last month. Marquette has had the individual medalist in three-straight tournaments, dating back to November in which freshman Ben Sieg won the BIG EAST/MAC Challenge.

Despite Van Sickle's good score, MU as a team slipped again, finishing ninth. The Golden Eagles shot 897 for the three rounds. Middle Tennessee State won the tournament, shooting 869. The Blue Raiders led the entire way.

Junior Ted Gray was the second finisher for Marquette. He had a final round 73 to finish at 226, tied for 35th. Junior Michael Bielaski placed in a tie for 42nd, shooting 226. Sieg placed 59th at 231. Sophomore Dustin Schwab finished at 236, placing in a tie for 71st.

The Golden Eagles return to action on March 10-11 at the Mission Inn Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
