MU Gets Finishes Up At USF Invitational

DADE CITY, Fla. - Marquette University finished in a tie for 15th place at the USF Invitational, which included seven of the nation's top 37 teams and wrapped up on Tuesday at Lake Jovita Country Club. MU now has a week off before heading down to the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
After shooting a team tournament low 68 in the second round, Pat Sanchez concluded his tournament with a third round 74. The round was highlighted by a spectacular 9-iron hole out for eagle on the par 4 sixth hole from 145 yards out. Sanchez finished T37 with a 1-under par 215 (73-68-74).
Zach Gaugert (224) shooting a third round even par-72 was next in the standings for the Golden Eagles followed closely by Brandon Cloete (223) and Nick Nelson (224). Rounding out the MU team just a few strokes back was C.J. Swift (228).
Florida State boasted both the top individual and team score. Jack Maguire shot an impressive 16-under par 200 (65-73-62) leading the Seminoles to a team victory with a score of 823. Marquette tied with the Air Force Academy for 15th place after shooting a team score of 878.
Next up for the men's golf team is the National Invitational Tournament on Mar. 14-17 at the Omni Tucson Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz.
