March 6, 2010
DADE CITY, Fla. -- The Marquette University men’s golf team has struggled to find consistency thus far during the first two days of the USF Ron Smith Invitational, the Golden Eagles’ opening tournament of the spring season, posting a second-round team score of 301 at Lake Jovita Golf Club.
Marquette opened play Friday with a 297 led by Matt Haase's one-under-par 71. MU was tied for 16th place at the start of today's round, but dropped two spots into a tie with Florida Atlantic for 18th place heading into Sunday’s final round of action.
Mike McDonald made four birdies to card a one-over 73 to lead the squad, while Haase shot 80 to fall out of the top 25. Haase was tied for 11th place at the conclusion of play Friday, but now sits three strokes behind McDonald, who is currently tied for 42nd place at 151 for the tournament following an opening-round 75.
Ben Sieg managed to shoot a 74, four strokes better than his 78 on Friday. Sieg carded a team-high five birdies on the afternoon, but got off to a sluggish by going 4-over on the front nine.
Live scoring is available for Sunday's final round.
