DADE CITY, Fla. -- The Marquette University men's golf team returns from the Sunshine State following a forgettable finish at the USF Invitational. MU recorded a third-round 304 Sunday at Lake Jovita Country Club, concluding the three-day event tied for 17th place with Cincinnati.
Senior Kelly Kretz led the Golden Eagles with an even-par 216 for the tournament and tied for 21st on the individual leaderboard. Kretz carded a 74 in his final round after beginning the day at 2-under.
Freshman Corey Konieczki ended up at 225 (76-72-77). Sophomore Ryan Prickette was the only MU player Sunday to better his second-round score with a 76, and freshman Michael Motz closed with a 77 to finish at 228 (75-76), one stroke away from matching a career tournament low.
Marquette's best team score of the weekend was a first-round 297. The Golden Eagles finished at 899 for the tournament.
"It was a very disappointing finish," said head coach Steve Bailey. "We got off to a rough start and were never able to gain any momentum. I look forward to putting this one behind us and turn things around in Orlando next week."
Middle Tennessee State (838) took home the team title, paced by individual medalist Hunter Green who fired an 11-under 205, highlighted by back-to-back 67s to open play.
Next, up, MU will return to Florida for the 17-team Rio Pinar Invitational, hosted by UCF, March 14-15, at Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando.
