Kretz Fires Second-Round 67 at Rio Pinar Invitational
March 14, 2011
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Marquette University senior Kelly Kretz fired a second-round five-under-par 67 Monday and is tied for 12th place to lead the Golden Eagles after the first 36 holes at the Rio Pinar Invitational.
Marquette will enter Tuesday's final round at the Rio Pinar Country Club in 13th place with a team score of 594 after finishing the day Monday with a second-round 294.
The Golden Eagles shot a 300 in the opening round Monday, led by senior Ben Sieg who carded an even-par 72. Kretz, like Sieg in round one, was the only MU golfer to go par-or-better in round two, redeeming the 76 that he opened with earlier in the day.
Kretz's 5-under 67 ties the second-lowest tally by an MU player in 2010-11, matching his 4-under 67 in the second round at the Pacific Invitational back in November. Kretz closed that tournament with a career-low 64 and finished runner-up.
Host school UCF paces the 18-team field with a cumulative score of 557 (275-282). Florida Gulf Coast University's Daniel Mazziotta sits atop the individual leaderboard win a one-stroke lead at 10-under 134 (65-69).
Third-round action will get underway at 7 a.m. CT with a shotgun start. Live scoring is not available. Results will be posted on GoMarquette.com.
