Golfers Tied For Sixth After Solid First Round

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Marquette University men's golf team sits in a tie for sixth place following the first round of action Friday at the 2014 Arizona National Invitational Tournament at Omni Tucson National.

Nick Nelson, Zach Gaugert and CJ Swift each opened with a 1-under-par 71 to lead the Golden Eagles on the first day of the three-day event, which will resume with Tuesday's second round.

Marquette carded a team score of 287, which has the Golden Eagles tied with Texas A&M, ranked as high as No. 9 (Golfweek) in this week's rankings.

No. 3 California has the lead after shooting 268 on Friday.
