MU Golfers Struggle To Find Consistency at Rio Pinar
March 15, 2011
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Marquette University men's golf team wrapped up play at the Rio Pinar Invitational with a lackluster third round Tuesday at Rio Pinar Country Club. MU finished tied for 14th place, led by senior Kelly Kretz who placed tied for 14th on the individual leaderboard.
Kretz entered the day tied for 12th at 1-under for the tournament and closed with an even-par 72 in the final round for a cumulative score of 1-under 215. Meanwhile, MU shot a third-round 304 to end up at 898, even with Rhode Island.
"Kelly continues to play well, but unfortunately he didn't have much of a supporting cast," said head coach Steve Bailey. "We have the rest of spring break to improve and look to respond with a better showing [at Florida Atlantic University]."
Since Marquette University is currently on its academic spring break, the MU players will remain in Florida throughout the week to practice. The Golden Eagles are scheduled to practice tomorrow at Old Memorial Golf Club in Tampa. They will also play a round Thursday at TPC Sawgrass before returning to Milwaukee later this week.
MU's next competitive event is the FAU Spring Break Championship, March 25-27, in Delray Beach, Fla.
