MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's golf team shaved 10 strokes off their opening round score to post a 304 Monday during second-round action at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate by Gatorade held at the Centennial No. 8 Course in Pinehurst, N.C. Currently tied for 13th, the Golden Eagles will play their final round on Tuesday. Indiana still leads the 19-team field with a 578 (286-292). Marquette is knotted with Toledo at 618, but leads Miami (Ohio), Hartford, Western Illinois, Marshall, and IUPUI heading into the final round and is within striking distance of at least a handful of teams, including ninth-place Wisconsin at 612 (308-304). MU junior Mike Van Sickle posted the team's best score of the day, shooting an even-par 72. Van Sickle has now carded par-or-better in 17 of his 22 rounds played this season and is on pace to break his own single-season record of 20 rounds of par-or-better established in 2006-07. Van Sickle is tied with teammate Mike Bielawski for 23rd overall. Bielawski has been MU's most consistent performer for the tournament. The senior carded back-to-back rounds of 77 and 75, respectively. Bielawski's five birdies is also most among the squad. Tuesday's third round at the 7,092-yard No. 8 Course will be a shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m. CT.
