The Marquette University men's golf team trails only Middle Tennessee State following Monday's first and second rounds at the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate in Springfield, La., and MU junior Mike Van Sickle currently sits atop the individual leaderboard with one round remaining.

With a 298, the Golden Eagles led MTSU by two strokes after the first round. MTSU fired a tournament-low 286 in round two, however, to overtake the lead. Marquette's 303 in the second round put the team at 601 for the tourney, nine strokes ahead of third place Jacksonville State, but still trailing MSTU (586).

Van Sickle carded back-to-back rounds of 71 and 72. His two-round total of 143 leads by two strokes over Cedric Scott of host Southeastern Louisiana and MTSU's Rick Cochran. MU teammate Ted Gray is tied for fourth at 146 after posting 71 and 75, respectively.

Senior Mike Bielawski also passed Nathan Colson today as the Golden Eagles' all-time leader in career rounds played with 123.0.

The third and final round at the par-72, 7,049-yard Carter Plantation will be played on Tuesday.
