Motz, Kretz Pace Golden Eagles in Opening Round at FAU

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. -- Freshman Michael Motz fired a collegiate-low 73 to open play Friday at the FAU Spring Break Championship, and is tied with teammate Kelly Kretz for 25th place to lead the Golden Eagles following the first day of competition at the par-72 Gleneagles Country Club.

Marquette is currently in 13th place in the team standings with two rounds remaining. Second-round action is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. CT Saturday and the tournament will conclude with Sunday's third and final round.

Motz, a rookie out of Milton, Ga., went more than five strokes below his season average (78.40) through five events played. His previous low round was 74.

With a team score of 306, MU sits two strokes ahead of fellow BIG EAST Conference member Connecticut.
