Marquette Places Second, Gray Third At Carter Plantation

Milwaukee - Marquette University finished second in the 15-team Carter Plantation Intercollegiate, which wrapped up Tuesday in Springfield, La. Senior Ted Gray led the Golden Eagles with a four-over par 220 (71-75-74) at the par-72, 7,049-yard Carter Plantation. MU has now finished in the top three in six out of eight tournaments in 2007-08. Junior Mike Van Sickle placed seventh with a 222 (71-72-79). Both Gray and Van Sickle shot a one-under 71 in the first round of the two-day tournament. Van Sickle had led the entire field with a 143 following the second round, also played on Monday. For Gray, it marks the second top-10 finish of the season and Van Sickle has accomplished the feat seven times. Collectively, the duo has combined to shoot a total of 29 rounds of par-or-better this year. Individual medalist honors went to Middle Tennessee State's Rick Cochran, who carded a 215 (74-71-70). MTSU won the event with a score of 881 (300-286-295), and Marquette finished at 907 (298-303-306), finishing three strokes ahead of third place Louisiana-Lafayette. Carter Plantation Intercollegiate
