Golfers Finish Tied for Fourth at Marshall Invite

Huntington, W.Va. - The Marquette golf team improved from its second round to shoot 293 in the third round and finish in a tie for fourth place with Akron University at the 37th Annual Marshal Invitational in Huntington, W.Va. The Golden Eagles shot a three-round total of 883. Senior Kyle Murphy paced Marquette with a one-under-par third round (70) in a tie for third place with Miami of Ohio's Ryan Swelin. Eastern Michigan won the 37th Annual Marshall Invitational for the first time. The Eagles finished ten strokes better than second-place Ball State and 12 strokes better than the host Thundering Herd. The Eagles' Peter Sauerbrei defeated Marshall junior Shawn Warren in a playoff to win medalist honors Saturday. Senior Joe Weber shot a one-over-par 72 in the third round to finish as Marquette's next highest finisher in a tie for 24th totaling 222 for the three rounds. Senior Nate Colson finished the day in 38th (224) with his best performance in the third round, three-over-par, 74. Sophomore Ted Gray and freshman Mike VanSickle were both 58th totaling 228 for the three rounds, while senior Mark Eldridge was eight-over-par in the third round (79) for a final total of 241.
