COLUMBUS, Indiana - Marquette freshman Charlie Maleki grabbed a third place spot with a career-best 1-under-par 71 to lead the second-place Golden Eagles (293, 5-over-par) after 18 holes on Saturday at the Hoosier Collegiate, hosted by Indiana University.

Day one at Otter Creek G.C. was originally scheduled for 36 holes, but due to weather, the tournament was shortened to 36 total holes. Final round play is Sunday.

MU and Ball State are tied for the number two spot, two strokes behind Purdue (291).

Oliver Farrell and Nick Nelson both sit tied for 14th following opening round 73s on the par 72, 7,199-yard layout.

Maleki began his day on No. 3 with a bogey in the shotgun start before going 2-under-par the rest of the day, highlighted by birdies on holes No. 14, 18 and 2. Maleki enters the final round on Sunday tied at 1-under-par and just one shot off the lead.

As a team, the Golden Eagles lead the field with 65 par makes on a day where the average player score was 75.63. Temperatures for the day topped out at 35 degrees with a wind chill of 25 degrees.

Marquette will begin Sunday's final round off No. 1 with Purdue and Ball State at 9:05 CT.
