MU Golfers Start Strong at Hawkeye Invitational
IOWA CITY, IOWA - The Marquette University men's golf team sits in 7th place after the first round of the Hawkeye Great River Entertainment Invitational. MU is currently one stroke behind Iowa State, who sits in sixth place, thanks to the low rounds of Zach Gaugert and C.J. Swift. The two Golden Eagles shot a 1-over par 73 which brings them in at tied for 14th. Nick Nelson and Pat Sanchez had strong showings as well in round one shooting a 76 putting them in tied for 33rd.
The second round was also played on Saturday and saw the Golden Eagles climb up the leader board. After 36 holes, MU now sits in 5th place. Nick Nelson returned to fall form by shooting an incredible 69 which moves him all the way up to tied for 14th. Pat Sanchez also went low in round 2 shooting a 1-under par 71. Swift and Gaugert followed up their first round 73 with a second round 75. Marquette is only one point behind 4th place Iowa State.
Nick Nelson is the first MU golfer to tee off on Sunday at 9:00 am CT.
