GLENVIEW, Ill. - The Marquette University men's golf team finished in the middle of the 14-team field, placing seventh overall following the final round of competition Tuesday at the Kemper Sports Intercollegiate held at The Glen Club.
Will Joiner, playing as an individual unattached from MU's five-person lineup, was the Golden Eagles' top performer at the two-day event. Joiner finished with a 54-hole total 224, highlighted by a second-round 1-under-par 71 on Monday afternoon.
Freshmen teammates Zach Gaugert and Pat Sanchez were one stroke back at 225 and tied for 30th place after both golfers closed with a 1-over 73 Tuesday in much more pleasant playing conditions compared to the windy, cold and rainy day prior.
The Golden Eagles combined for a team score of 902, including a team low round Tuesday of 296. Tournament host Northwestern (844) won the team title of its inaugural event, 12 strokes better than runner-up Ohio State (856).
This week's tournament was MU's final tune-up before wrapping up the 2013 season later this month at the BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship, April 28-30.
